Many women, at a certain point in their lives, dream of the perfect dress on that perfect day – the day of their wedding. Usually when these visions float through their minds, they visualize a beautiful white dress complete with rhinestones, lace, illuminating shades of white, exquisite embroidery, and breath-taking designer quality. In this particular competition, the participants design and display all of these qualities with a fortunate twist. That twist is that all of the dresses, accessories, and hats are composed entirely of glue, tape, a little bit of thread and an abundance of toilet paper: items that come at a small portion of the average cost of a wedding gown. Cartasia 2012, Application Form now available

Cartasia is a Biennale of Contemporary Art, held in Lucca, Tuscany, and dedicated to paper art. The 2012 Cartasia contest for paper and cardboard projects has now been officially announced. Cartasia 2012 will take place in Lucca from June 30 to July 29, 2012. Primary aim of the contest is to promote paper and cardboard as a raw material for artists. The contest emphasizes the production of paper and cardboard projects and is strictly bounded to the use of those materials. All submitted project must respect the general theme proposed by the organisers, which is, for 2012: “Crisis and Rebirth”. Demand is moving ahead in overall tissue consumption by up to 3 percent per year. The economy has picked up a little, which helps, but there is product innovation, such as the wider application of towel products, to consider. In the paper industry, the tissue industry in the US stands out in that it remains profitable. What effect is this having on investment?
