Isabelle de Borchgrave’s paper costumes
Belgian artist Isabelle de Borchgrave started giving drawing classes in the seventies. Following a visit to the Metropolitan Museum in New York in 1994, Isabelle dreamed up paper costumes. Since then she worked on four big collections, all in paper and trompe l’œil, each of which set the scene for a very different world. “Papiers à la Mode” (Paper in Fashion), the first, takes a fresh look at 300 years of fashion history from Elizabeth I to Coco Chanel. “Mariano Fortuny” immerses us in the world of 19th century Venice. Plissés, veils and elegance are the watchwords of that history. “I Medici” leads us through the streets of Florence, were we come across famous figures in their ceremonial dress. The spiritual world of Chagall in Lucca
From 7 January to 11 March 2012 the San Cristoforo Church in Lucca will be home to an exhibition of works by Marc Chagall, entitled ‘Chagall’s Sprirtual Universe’. 20 works of art by the Russian maestro created between 1959 and 1982 will be on display. The artist interprets blossoming love in ‘Le bouquet jaune‘ (1975) and in the romantic ‘Dans le ciel de Saint-Paul‘ (1980). ‘Le clown au visage bleu‘ (1980) and ‘Le trapéziste‘ (1978-1980) depict the world of circus life that so fascinated Chagall. Hiking Matanna
Starting from the village of Trescolli, just above the small town of Casoli, right into a steep climb of about 15 minutes along the Italian Alpine Club path number 106 which reaches the church of San Rocchino. From here, follow 3 until the fork with 121. The path is up and down and crosses through a thicket of beech trees, while offering a full view of the Apuan Alps. The first level is the imposing rock face north of Nona, Procinto with his two sons – Panie and Corchia. After nearly an hour of hiking, we reach the refuge of the alpine group from Forte dei Marmi.
